I am Maxime Gowans, a CPDT-IACT certified professional dog trainer with a lifelong passion for helping dogs and their people build stronger, more trusting relationships.

My journey began at the BC SPCA, where I worked hands-on with dogs facing behavioral challenges — an experience that sparked my commitment to making a lasting difference in their lives.

After completing my certification through the International Academy of Canine Trainers, I turned that passion into a full-time career, first serving clients on Salt Spring Island and now proudly based in Cranbrook, BC.

At Balanced K9 Companion, I focus on prevention, education, and balanced communication — helping families create calm, confident dogs who can thrive in any environment. My compassionate and practical approach blends empathy, structure, and clear communication to guide both dog and owner toward success.

Josie, Tucker, and Mazikeen are the heart and soul of Balanced K9. Each one came with their own quirks, challenges, and lessons that shaped who we are and how we train today.

From Josie’s redemption story to Maze’s fiery determination and Tucker’s calm, grounding presence — they represent everything we stand for: balance, patience, and the belief that no dog is ever too far gone. These three keep us humble, inspired, and laughing every single day — the ultimate reminder that growth happens on both ends of the leash.

Meet Kevin ⋆

Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of helping countless rescue dogs find their forever homes through dedicated training and rehabilitation. As part of my “give back” program, I occasionally welcome a rescue dog into my Board & Train program — giving them the structure, confidence, and skills they need to thrive in a new home. When time allows, I partner with various rescues to help transform these deserving dogs into well-mannered, adoptable companions ready to start their next chapter.

Meet Kevin — The Loyal, Playful Shepherd Mix Ready for His Forever Home

Kevin is a 1-year-old German Shepherd mix looking for his perfect match!

When Kevin first arrived, he was a little unsure of the world — a shy soul still learning who to trust. But with patience, consistency, and care, he’s blossomed into a confident, affectionate boy. Once Kevin bonds with his person, his loyalty runs deep (sometimes a little too deep — he’s learning that sharing his favorite human isn’t so bad after all!).

Now that his confidence is shining through, so is his playful spirit. Kevin absolutely loves playing with other dogs once he feels safe and comfortable. He’s got great food and toy drive, making him a blast to train — and fetch? That’s his jam!

He’s currently working on his basic obedience skills and doing so well that off-leash adventures are just around the corner. Nothing makes him happier than stretching those long legs and chasing a ball to his heart’s content.

On leash, Kevin is a perfect gentleman, and at home, he knows how to unwind — happily curling up for a cuddle or relaxing on the couch to watch TV with you.

If you’re looking for a devoted, fun-loving companion with a big heart and even bigger potential, Kevin might just be your guy. ❤️
